Tommy Lee-5-1024x1024Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant and mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), who was a contestant in the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. Athena is his older sister, and also a drummer. Lee was just two years old [4] when his father took his family to the United States. Lee received his first drums at the age of 4 as well as his first large drum set as an adult. He quit high school in order to pursue the career of a musician beginning in the L.A. club band Suite 19. He listened to Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Cheap Trick as a teenager. John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge and Alex Van Halen were his principal drumming influences. Terry Bozzio was also a significant influence.
