The newspaper she worked for was The Washington Post nearly a decade covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as being a basketball reporter at numerous Olympics. In 2004 Nichols was transferred to ESPN for a nine-year run in which she earned 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most watched programs, like SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. Additionally, she worked as a correspondent for Monday Night Football on the network. Next, she moved on into CNN Sports and Turner. Unguarded by Rachel Nichols was the first show she produced and hosted. The show aired on CNN International and CNN. It was watched by more than one-billion viewers in the whole globe. During this time Nichols covered TNT's NBA broadcasts which included playoffs, regular season, and the All-Star broadcast teams. Nichols also reported on baseball, golf as well as Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. This was the second occasion in the 42-year history of TBS that a woman was nominated out of more than 200 nominations.
